“The Eumenides”, a video installation specially created for the UNO Campus Fine Art Gallery by Lala Raščić, is based on J.P. Sartre’s drama “The Flies.” In collaboration with writer Andreja Dugandžić, Raščić used text from Sartre and references existentialism and ancient Greek mythology, theater, and tragedy in the creation of a new narrative. Raščić assumes the roles of Electra and Orestes, while the central motive of the Furies, or the Eumenides, ancient goddesses of revenge, is treated as musical number, produced in collaboration with Sarajevo-based electronic duo Black Water and Her Daughter and producer Midi Brigade. The video also subverts the traditional tragic character of Electra, showing her as an empowered female figure.

The installation exhibited in the UNO Campus Fine Art Gallery includes a sculptural installation resembling a stage set. Text materials that includes Raščić’s script; storyboard and installation sketches; writings by Sartre, Steiner, Nietzsche, Graves, Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sophocles are available for reference in the space of the installation, exposing the artistic process, and as tools for alternative readings of The Eumenides.
